My name is Damien Bourke. I am an enthusiastic and motivated, fully qualified mainstream elementary teacher. I received a second-class honours degree in Education and Psychology and have completed my seventh-year teaching. Upon receiving top grades in my final exams at high school level, I was fortunate enough to be accepted into a unique teacher training programme where just 33 students in the country were selected to complete a joint degree in Education and Psychology. This sparked my interest in many areas of psychology, which ultimately has helped me to become the teacher I am today, adhering the diverse needs within the classroom. This experience led me to travel abroad and experience new cultures. Working as a hostel manager in Cusco, Peru and in La Paz, Bolivia, I learnt a lot about people and behaviourism which I have applied in a school setting ever since. This further helped me develop my interpersonal skills that are essential for teaching while also working with others in a different language and culture. Having a keen interest in all areas of sport, including GAA (national sport in Ireland), marathon running, hiking and triathlons, I hope to implement such extracurricular activities within my tutoring and instil this enthusiasm that I have for healthy living and a healthy mindset.
