Hello, my name is Miss Lara Matchett and I’m from Glasgow, a vibrant city on the West coast of Scotland. I’ve taught in Scotland for a few years and now this is my second year in Dubai. I have taught children from all across the world and I have loved learning all about their culture, heritage and perspectives. It truly has helped me grow as a teacher and each individual story has encouraged me on this rewarding teaching journey.
In my spare time, I love dancing (I was an Irish dancer for 13 years) and I love trying new sports. This past year whilst being in Dubai, I have learnt to play Gaelic football (it’s an Irish sport) and I have enjoyed going to pilates classes- it allows me to relax and focus my mind. I believe that I am enthusiastic and dedicated as a teacher and I always strive to create an environment that is welcoming and inclusive. I believe in ensuring that is always the main priority and I often reflect on a Scottish education document called the Getting It Right For Every Child which puts children at the centre of everything.
I graduated in 2024 from The University of The West of Scotland with an Honours degree in Education, specialising in Modern Languages. Since then, I have taught in Scotland and then in the UAE. I have experience across both Key Stage 1 and 2. My teaching approach is rooted in the belief that children learn best when they take ownership of their learning. I strive to create an inclusive, child-led environment where every voice is valued and all learners feel confident to contribute. I encourage curiosity, independence, and resilience, helping children to see mistakes not as failures but as powerful opportunities to grow. By fostering a positive and supportive classroom culture, I aim to empower children to challenge themselves, build confidence, and develop a genuine love of learning. Alongside my classroom experience, I offer private tutoring tailored to meet the individual needs of each child. I work closely with families to understand your child’s strengths and areas for development, creating personalised learning experiences that build confidence and secure progress. This past year I have supported Year 6 pupils in particular to prepare for their GL exams. With consistent practice and support our results had shown great improvement. For example: in the English NGRT exam, at the start of the year we were seen as weak. However by the end of the year, our results had gone to good and even very good. With the right encouragement, guidance, and opportunities, I believe every child can flourish and reach their full potential. If you are looking for a tutor who combines enthusiasm, passion, and a supportive approach, I would be delighted to support your child’s learning journey.
